Corporate Psychometric Testing
Psychometric testing provides an objective measure of a person’s
interests, abilities and behavioural style. It provides the employer with
additional information not obtainable from other sources. It is a sound
tool for generating specific questions to enhance the corporation’s
recruitment reference check process.
Following discussion with the employer an appropriate test battery is
used to match the candidate’s abilities, skills and temperament
to the advertised
Successful recruiting is about analysing personality, knowing what the job entails and getting the match right. AFR May 2006
“Job fit involves a parsimonious description of an individual’s preferences/predilections and abilities. It also involves description of jobs, tasks, roles and responsibilities. Then the match between person and the job becomes more apparent.” AFR May 2006
Tim Carroll, principal consultant at the Sydney branch of the placement
agency Carmichael Fisher, which uses personality testing, says it's only
suspect when an employer relies on it heavily.
Malcolm McKenzie, the manager of the University of Technology's careers
service, vouches for their credibility. "Personality tests are designed
to assess personal traits that may affect job performance and work behaviour
in an objective way that allows comparisons to be made between individuals,"
he says.
Like Carroll, McKenzie stresses that personality tests must be used alongside
other modes of assessment rather than in precarious isolation. SMH May
